PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION
This
insurance company had an installed NetWare network with 2 file
servers and 70 plus PC workstations for the purpose of accessing a
database to generate customer quotations.
Although the TNS network engineer was called in to solve one
simple printing problem, he quickly noticed more serious performance
problems across the network, such as slow response times and
occasional file server crashes. He recognized these as symptoms of a
poorly designed network system that required proper optimization.
The
network engineer was then engaged to complete a performance analysis
and security audit, and to produce a report with his findings.
After making recommendations and presenting his opinions to
the client, the network engineer was retained and charged with the
job of fixing the performance problems and optimizing the network
system.
Successful
implementation of TNS recommendations increased performance by
reducing the time to process database queries from 14 seconds to 1
second. Optimization of the network significantly reduced system
crashes resulting in increased confidence and client satisfaction of
the network system.
